Upcoming new features in GoalsOnTrack
We have been busy developing new features and making improvements to the app. Thanks to the feedback of many GOT users, I was able to identify several features that people want to see most in the product. We’re taking an incremental development and improvement approach. New upgrades will be rolling out in the coming weeks.
First to be available in GOT is a new full view calendar tool, which allows you to manage goals and tasks on a calendar interface. This will make your job extremely easy when it comes to re-scheduing your tasks under different goals. Also a calendar view of all your tasks will give you a better view of what your schedule is for the month, or the week. Here is a sneak peak at how it looks like.
In addition to the calendar features, we’re also working on two main improvements. One is the recurring tasks, and the other is sub-goal support. We’re making changes to the way how recurring tasks work so that it’s more compatibile with the way it works in programs such as Google calendar, Outlook that most people are familiar with.
We’re also going to support adding sub goals for parent goals, so that all progress made on sub-goals will be reflected in parent goals. This may help you better break down a bigger goal and achieve it more efficiently.
Beyond, we’ve also done some work with the new iPhone/mobile version of GoalsOnTrack. However, it’s just started so I don’t have much to share at this point. So please come back and check this blog often to see what’s new with the site.
Upcoming New Feature: Habits Builder
Within the next 2 weeks or so, we will be releasing a new feature, called “Habits Builder”, to help you achieve goals more quickly and effectively through building great habits.
When we work on our goals, especially those life changing, long term goals, it often requires us to make fundamental changes in our behaviour and thought patterns. One way to speedite this type of transition is through building good habits that can really help us make these changes. Thus the reason we want to introduce this habits tracker/builder feature into GoalsOnTrack. Here is a sneak peak of how it might work.
As you can see, it’s a very simple user interface that allows you to quickly add some habits that are supportive of your goals, and then everyday, you can check on the weekly calender for whether you’ve kept that habit or not. For every habit, it tracks how many times you’ve sticked to it, and how often you did it. Based on that, the software will calculate an estimated strength of your habit.
For new habits you’ve just started, their strength obviously is very low, but as you put more checks into the calender, you will see the habit grows stronger and stronger, until one day, you will see that the habit strength is showing full, which means you’ve pretty much formed that habit.
For this release, we will try to keep it very simple and easy to use. As we collect more feedback from people really using it, we will see what adjustments we need to make or new features to add to it to make it more useful. Please stay tuned and, as always, let me know what you think about this new feature.
Thanks,
Harry
What’s new with the site?
We have been working on a new feature after we launched task reordering feature last week. This new feature, called “Vision Board”, will help you visualize your goals and subconciously focus your mind on what you want to accomplish. We are in the final process of testing the new feature across different browsers and operating systems. It should be launched next week.
In addition to that, we’ve also fixed a few minor bugs, related to daily stats area, and in removing recurring task (thanks to Edward for alerting us about this bug).
We’re always finding ways to improve the site and make the app more useful for people reaching goals. So please don’t hesitate to send us any ideas or suggestion that you may have that could make the site better.
GoalsOnTrack New Feature: Drag-and-drop Task Reordering
We’ve recently launched a cool new feature that allows you to quickly prioritize your tasks on dashboard, simply by drag-n-droping them into the order that you want.
Below is a simple video I created to demonstrate how it looks like:
GoalsOnTrack: recent updates
- New feature: Move tasks between goals.
- Fixed bug in showing “Remove all” link when there is no task shown.
- Fixed bug in displaying different tasks according to “My Task” selection.
- Fixed bug in displaying entry counts for Journal achives.
- Fixed bug when completing task which isn’t found/already removed.
- Fixed the Tasks menu selection bug.
- Minor changes to Home page text and title.
- Added new experimental pricing plan for annual payment.
New feature for removing tasks and improved progress report
We pushed another update to the site today. Now you are able to remove all tasks under a goal, without the need to do it manually. You may find it useful if you accidentally schedule too many recurring tasks and later decide to remove them all.
Another improvement included in this update is the progress report. We’ve changed the chart graph so that now it shows the “accumulative” progress percentages for each day for the given period, as you will have clearer picture of how much progress you’re making by viewing the chart.
Please check out the update about these two items and let us know if you experience any problems.
Maintenance release - 28/9/2009
We deployed a maintenance release to production server last weekend. This release includes a few improvements such as paginations for goals and tasks pages, remembering goal category selection, as well as a few minor fixes, etc.
Several new features are under development right now and will be released in coming weeks.
What’s new with GoalsOnTrack?
We deployed a new release to the production server early this week. Here are the main changes in this release:
- Added “Stop recurring by” field to the task form - This allows you to create recurring tasks up to a date that you specify.
- Optimized Tasks page caching mechanism - this should improve the overall load speed espeically if you have many active tasks under many goals. However, please note that every time we do a new deployment, the server cache has to be rebuilt, which means it may seems slower when you first access your Tasks page after the new release, but it should generally loads much faster afterwards.
- Added pagination to the Tasks page - This includes both active and completed tasks. We’re trying to find way perhaps to seperate them into different pages, as it makes more sense especially when you have many tasks under both categories.
- Minor cosmetic fixes here and there.
Here is a list of things we’re working on, and hopefully to release soon.
- Import and Export tasks in iCal format so that you can integrate GOT with Gmail, Mac iCalender etc.
- Add a “Delete” option to the “re-schedule” menu on Dashboard so that you can quickly remove a task that may not need to be done.
- Add the function to specify the “Completion Date” when complete a task, so that you mark a task as completed, for any date, not just today.
- Optimize overall Journal functions
As always, we’re open to any good suggestions that you may have. Please don’t hesitate to let me know your ideas.
Thanks,
Harry
Site updates
Just a quick note to let you know there have been a few minor updates to the application. Also added a “Total” hours on the time usage report. It’d be a convenient way to see how much time you’ve worked on goals each day, week, or month etc.
We’re also working on a few improvements, including a better way to do recurring tasks, ability to remove tasks from dashboard, and a few performance improvement changes, mainly to the tasks page.
Please check back often to see what’s new with the site and also let me know what features or things you think would be useful in the app.
Cheers,
Harry
Upcoming new feature to sync with Outlook
Hi there,
Just a quick update to let you know that we’re working on a new feature that allows you to sync your tasks between GoalsOnTrack and Outlook. As we’ve learned, many users still keep using Outlook as their main task management tool. Now this new feature will make it easy for you to import and export tasks from Outlook, or from GoalsOnTrack to Outlook.
We’re planning to add more support for this kind of data integration with other popular software. Please let me know which tasks/todo list management tools you would like to see GoalsOnTrack integrate with.
Thanks,
Harry
